Meet the team

Find out a bit more about each member of the Greenwood Community Forest team.

Steve Little – Director

Steve has worked in a variety of roles across the public, private and voluntary sector.

As Greenwood Director he works strategically with the 14 other community forests, and with local, regional and national partners to promote, connect and develop Greenwood Community Forest.

He enjoys being outdoors, birdwatching, listening to music and going to gigs.

His favourite woodland is Ploughman Wood, near Lambley, ancient woodland that was once part of the historical footprint of Sherwood Forest.

Alix Bailey - Woodland Creation Officer

Her role involves working with landowners to implement woodland creation schemes across the Greenwood Community Forest Area. This involves site visits, collaboration with landowners on scheme design, completing environmental checks, and seeing the scheme through from start to finish. Alix also provides support for the GIS aspects of the process.

She has a keen interest in mycology, particularly grassland fungi and also enjoys history and reading.

Her favourite woodland is Clumber Park.

Helen Mitchem - Partnership Outreach Manager

Helen has worked in the conservation sector for 25 years within various organisations.  Her current role involves promoting Greenwood and expanding connections with other local / national organisations.  She loves connecting children with nature and seeing the smiles on their faces when they find their first worm or frog.

She enjoys live music and festivals and is a keen scuba-diver:  exploring and conserving the underwater world and training new people to dive.

Her favourite woodland is Bestwood Country Park where she enjoys leading Forest Bathing courses.

Lynn Preece - Community Woodland Creation Officer

Lynn works within Newark and Sherwood District Council, one of our partner organisations and helps to support landowners across the county to plant more trees. As part of our brilliant Trees for Climate team her role involves working with parish councils, farmers and local conservation groups to advise on new tree and hedgerow planting.

She is a keen gardener and grower and loves spending time pottering on her allotment. This is also a chance for Lynn to record butterflies and enjoy the local wildlife.

Her favourite woodland is Cockglode Wood on the edge of Sherwood Heath near to Sherwood Forest.

Jane Proctor - Woodland Creation Assistant

Jane’s role involves establishing woodland, hedgerows and new habitats working alongside community groups, contractors, landowners, land agents, local authorities and schools. This can range from parkland style tree planting in urban areas to maintenance of large-scale woodland creation projects.

In her spare time, she is helping to set up a Social Enterprise running play workshops, focusing on child-led bonding through creative play using recycled, reused / repurposed parts.

Her favourite woodland is at the inspirational Eco Community Farm: a Dogwood labyrinth surrounding a magical circle of Silver Birch.

Rachael Rickell - Woodland Creation Officer

Rachael’s role involves meeting landowners and guiding them through the whole grant process from that first walk around, to seeing trees in the ground.

She lives on a smallholding and enjoys campervan adventures with her dogs, escaping to smell the sea as often as possible, going to gigs and having at least one book on the go at all times.

Her favourite wood is still the Hundred Acre Wood; she has a much smaller one at home which also has a resident Eeyore (or two) and a visiting Wol.

Nick Tucker - Trees for Climate Project Manager

Nick is responsible for delivering new woodland creation across Greenwood and wider Nottinghamshire.  A forester for nearly 40 years he has worked on everything to do with forestry from planting to felling and conservation to recreation in the natural environment.

Outside of work he keeps a herd of pedigree Saddleback pigs and likes to travel the world finding out more about local culture and people.

His favourite woodland is the New Forest where he spent 12 years of his career.

Nic Wort - Land Management Officer

Nic has been working in community forestry for many years. As one of our Land Management Officers in the Trees for Climate team he works with farmers, landowners, community groups and schools to plan, plant and look after tree planting and woodland creation projects, and loves to see how the woodlands develop over time.

He enjoys being by water, walking and birdwatching (not 'twitching'), a bit of fishing and waiting to see 'what comes up' in his new garden.

Nic's favourite wood is the next one we plant.

Liz Hopkins - Woodland Creation Community Liaison Officer

Liz is a farmer's daughter through and through, with a love of the great outdoors and countryside traditions. Liz loves to connect with the farming fraternity attending events and shows promoting our work and exploring Trees for Climate planting opportunities with landowners, and how they can support and alleviate the challenges the farming world faces today.

Liz has a houseful of dogs and enjoys exploring her local countryside -  between them they can't agree on a favourite wood and love them all!
