Creating a new community woodland at Willey Wood Farm
Nottinghamshire County Council, hosts of the Greenwood Community Forest recently purchased land at Willey Wood Farm, Newthorpe, as part of the Trees for Climate project to create a new climate-combatting woodland. The site extends to 39 hectares and the new woodland will help to create a green corridor linking Colliers Wood in Eastwood with Brinsley Headstock on Cordy Lane, Brinsley. The woodland, which will include open areas, mown footpaths and wetland will also contribute to the Queen's Green Canopy, to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee.
As well as being part of our ambitious tree-planting plans, and expansion of the Greenwood Community Forest, the new woodland will bring benefits for people and the landscape as well as locking up hundreds of tonnes of carbon, and will allow valuable habitats to develop.
If you are interested in the scheme you can find out more and give your views at a drop-in open evening on Wednesday 20th July between 4:30pm and 7:30pm at Brinsley Parish Hall, Cordy Lane, Brinsley, NG16 5BZ. We will present some concept designs for the establishment of a native broadleaf woodland, public access from the surrounding areas.
