Tippings Wood Local Nature Reserve & Boundary Wood
Off Warsop Lane, Blidworth
OS Grid Ref: SK592568
Web: Tippings Wood
Follow the locally named yellow brick road from Rainworth to Blidworth or venture further afield onto Boundary Wood. This site is a haven for dragonflies and damselflies. During the summer months see if you can spot a painted lady butterfly as she dances through the meadows. When autumn arrives watch out for the yellow wagtail as it migrates to warmer climes.
Southwell Trail
Station Road Southwell, or Forest Links, Bilsthorpe
Grid ref: SK 707 545 to SK 651 605
Web: Southwell Trail Local Nature Reserve
Once part of the grand vision to create a railway from Southwell through to Derbyshire. The dream was never realised and the Southwell line was short-lived. The abandoned line grew wild with shrubs, trees and flowers and is now a prime corridor for wildlife and a peaceful gateway into the Greenwood Community Forest and historic Sherwood.
You might be lucky enough to spot a common lizard basking in the sunshine around Farnsfield, or even one of the many butterflies found along the trail such as the Speckled Wood. Stop for a while to watch sparrow hawks as they circle above. For volunteer opportunities and events visit Friends of Southwell Trail
