The Woodlands and Coachwood Green
Trees for Climate is helping the Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green, Shireoaks, to plant a new community woodland on former pony paddocks. The planting will complement the existing trees in the adjacent woodland. Once the trees have established and grown, they will be managed as a new community woodland for all to enjoy. There will also be a small fruit orchard, so with time visitors will be able to pick and enjoy a variety of fresh fruit. There will also be plenty of trees bearing nuts, berries and fruit in the new woodland for the wildlife to enjoy.
In the short term, until the trees establish and grow, the fences will be left in place to protect the trees. Paths have been installed using further funding obtained by the Friends group. These will form a loop with the other woodland paths in the area, and will be opened up once the fencing is taken down.
Commemorative Tree
The local Women’s Institute will also be planting and caring for a Rowan tree to commemorate the coronation of King Charles. There are several commemorative trees around Coachwood Green to celebrate special landmark years of our late Queen, Elizabeth II.
Nature Discovery Area
In addition, the Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green have been busy raising funds and applying for grants to create The nature discovery area, a short walk away. Trees for Climate has also funded 8 specimen trees within this area to add to the interest of this wonderful education resource. If you would like to find out more about volunteering or the nature discovery area please contact the group at infowoodlandsandcoachwoodgreen@gmail.com.
