Gedling House Woods and Meadows is an area of about 19 ha. situated on the edge of urban development. It contains semi-natural broad-leaved woodland that is designated as a Local Nature Reserve and semi-improved meadowland that, apart from grazing, has probably been undisturbed for several hundred years. Surveys reveal that site is rich in terms of its biodiversity and it also provides for a measure of recreational activities such as walking, dog walking and observation of flora and fauna.

Moor Pond Wood is a cluster of small sites that together feature important remains of an early, mid 18th century, cotton mill along the River Leen. Now all that remains are well-preserved leats, sluices and dams. Walk along the footpath that follows the river and you are walking on the floor of the old reservoir. Now drained, this wet woodland area is rich in wildlife and fungi.

Newstead & Annesley Country Park lies on 220 acres of former colliery land, comprising open ground, broadleaved woodland, grassland, marshland and has 5 lagoons. A wonderful haven for wildlife.
Onchan Park

The Friends Of Onchan Park aim to save the park so that those who have enjoyed using it for the past 50 years can continue to use it and it will be there for many future generations. Having a Friends group for the park allows the local community to have a say in how it’s run, raise funding for new equipment and make Onchan Park a great community influenced facility.
